GALLERA, DE ALEJANDRO ÁLVAREZ: EL PICO Y LA ESPUELA EN LAS LETRAS DEL CARIBE

Resumen

Este artículo analiza el cuento Gallera, del escritor sabanero Alejandro Álvarez y se concentra, no sólo en las particularidades del proyecto estético costumbrista, sino también en el análisis y la valoración crítica e intertextual de las riñas de gallos tanto en la música como en la literatura del Caribe colombiano. De este modo, el texto establece una aproximación entre el relato de Álvarez y obras posteriores como El Coronel no tiene quien le escriba y Cien años de soledad, de Gabriel García Márquez y El gallo de oro, del mexicano Juan Rulfo. Por último, este trabajo procura ahondar en algunas consideraciones ideológicas y culturales que vinculan a Gallera con una tradición ancestral enraizada en el Caribe colombiano que se manifiesta también en un amplio abanico de piezas musicales de reconocidos compositores.

ABSTRACT

This article analyzes the story Gallera, written by Alejandro Álvarez, and it focuses not only on the particularities of the aesthetic costumbrista project (based on people’s customs), but also on the analysis and the critical and inter- textual validity of the roosters’ fights in the music as well as in the literature of the Colombian Caribbean. Hence, this paper establishes an approach between Alejandro Álvarez’s story and later works as No One Writes to the Colonel and One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel García Márquez, and The Golden Rooster, by the Mexican writer Juan Rulfo. Finally, this article pretends to deepen in certain ideological and cultural considerations that relate Gallera with an ancestral tradition linked to the Colombian Caribbean, fact that is also evidenced in a wide range of musical works of well known composers.
