The local and regional press is acknowledged as a vital source of information for citizens because of its proximity and area of expertise. However, this press is connected to power in the same way as the national press. This article analyses the main Andalusian daily newspapers according to their ownership. The results show that today few Andalusian newspapers remain in local hands and there is only one large regional media group. This process has been accentuated since the Spanish Transition and the consolidation of the market economy.
