In this article, the author makes an analytical review based on 252 articles and papers on the history of the press in two publications and six conferences in Latin America, with an emphasis on Mexico. This review demonstrates the prevalence of monographic studies and studies on representations, with few attempts to reflect on their own doing, their methodologies, or theoretical approaches. This paper concludes with a proposal of connected stories, as an alternative to transcend the self-imposed boundaries on regional or national stories and find how ideas circulated and how various aspects are connected by examining the nature of the connections.
