Abstract

This article presents the results of a study carried out at the Faculty of Engineering at Universidad de Córdoba, focused on the identification and characterization of university harassment. The study focused on identifying and characterizing university harassment, including sexual harassment, sexual coercion, and economic coercion. In addition, it sought to determine the prevalence of these behaviors, the actors involved, the possible gender correlations, and the frequency with which they occur. The research adopted a cross-sectional, quantitative, and descriptive approach, with the participation of 192 students from five academic programs within the Faculty of Engineering.  The data was collected through an online questionnaire and subsequently analyzed using statistical techniques and methods to obtain meaningful and useful information. The results obtained are revealing. A clear correlation was identified between gender and experiences of sexual harassment and coercion, with a significantly higher number of complaints from women. The perpetrators of these behaviors are mainly classmates and professors, which raises critical issues in terms of safety and overall learning environment in the Faculty of Engineering.  An important and worrying finding was that, despite the incidence of these behaviors, most people who experienced them chose not to seek assistance or report incidents to the relevant control and investigation entities. This reluctance raises additional questions about the support available to victims of harassment in the university setting. Overall, this study is an important contribution to the field of university harassment and provides valuable information for future research and policy design.
