Abstract

This is a comparative analysis of two novels: José María Arguedas’ Los ríos profundos and El Sexto. This article revolves around two similar terms: “eschatology” and “scatology”, which refer to life after death, but also to excrements. Arguedas' aesthetics are eschatological and scatological, and this article aims to present the reason behind said aesthetics in both novels. Arguedas was a writer who searched for a way to translate his own experience of XXth century Peru through his aesthetics; a country torn between the white and indigenous world, between the coast and the mountain.
