Más allá de los sucesos insólitos y vivaces, y de la singularidad de los personajes que pueblan la novela, La balada de María Abdala es una secreta historia de amor protagonizada por María Abdala y su marido, el poeta frustrado Abraham Abdala. Dos cabos errabundos de estirpe árabe dejan el terruño que los vio nacer para construir una tierna historia de amor en San Bernardo del Viento, la tierra jamás prometida. La historia de amor se cifra en la tolerancia y la comprensión de los personajes, dentro de unas relaciones guiadas por la sabiduría del marido, quien absuelve los escollos de las contradicciones cotidianas, en aras de la buena convivencia.

Two adventurous strands of Arabic lineage leave the place where they were born to build an affectionate love story in San Bernardo del Viento, the never promised land. The love story is encrypted on the tolerance and understanding of the characters within some relationships guided by the husband’s wisdom, who absolves the pitfalls of everyday contradictions in the interests of a good coexistence.
