Abstract

The analytical approach to this garciamarquiana novel focuses on the way its author collects key works of universal literature and thought, such as the gilgamesh poem, Shakespeare's The Comedy of Mistakes, and Esau and Jacob, of the Bible, among others, in order to shape, with the figures of the double of those works, the presence of this from his first tales: "The Other Rib of Death" and "Dialogue of the Mirror". In turn, this tradition of double reappears in the alter ego between the doctor and the priest in La hojarasca; in the symmetry of the mirrors among the twin brothers of One Hundred Years of Solitude, until they reach the double proper in The Autumn of the Patriarch. The duality of the power between Patricio Aragonés and the patriarch is the highlight with which García Márquez closes the aesthetic horizon around the configuration of the double.
