Abstract

This essay addresses the theoretical approaches of Raúl Ruiz on shamanic cinema to his film On important events and ordinary people (Ruiz, 1978). In this sense, his cinema is analyzed based on his own theory, the way he arranges the audiovisual materials to build this film that questions the traditional ways of production: it is a kind of meta-documentary that constantly thinks and questions the procedures involved in creating: How to approach the spaces and the time of the shots? How to ask? How to manipulate the characters? How to build the truth? What is the documentary?
