This research is part of a broader macroproject aimed at the systematic documentation of *work-related dances native to the Colombian Caribbean. It is linked to the formative processes of the CORPOEDU research seedbed, affiliated with the CEDINEP group at the University of Atlántico. In this first cohort of the study, fieldwork is geographically limited to the department of Cesar, with the objective of conducting a situated and contextualized approach to dance manifestations associated with productive labor.
The central objective of this research is to identify, characterize, and document work-related dances, not only to establish distinctions among them, but also to promote their dissemination as a pedagogical strategy and as a source of inspiration for contemporary artistic creation. In this regard, the study seeks to deepen the historical, symbolic, and choreographic aspects of these
practices, which despite being referenced in various contexts lack detailed and systematic records that would enable their critical appropriation in educational and performative settings. The methodology adopted follows a qualitative paradigm, with a historical-hermeneutic approach that prioritizes a dialogue of knowledge between academia and the bearers of traditional
knowledge. For data collection, the study includes in-depth interviews, participant observation, and focus groups conducted with experienced dance practitioners and cultural agents in the territory, recognizing them as living sources of memory and cultural agency.
