JUAN PRIM Y PRATS, EL RESIDENCIADO EN PUERTO RICO

Resumen

Los Juicios de Residencia se aplicaron a todos los miembros de la burocracia colonial, desde los alcaldes ordinarios hasta los virreyes; en ellos cada burócrata era obligado a rendir cuentas de su gestión. Los Jueces de Residencia enviaban un memorial que contenía los resultados de su investigación al Consejo de Indias o a las Audiencias competentes (o al Tribunal Supremo de Madrid ya en el siglo XIX, cuando no existía el Consejo).

ABSTRACT

The impeachment trials were applied to all members of the colonial bureaucracy, from ordinary mayors to the viceroys, and in them every bureaucrat was held accountable for its management. Resident Judges sent a memorial containing the results of its investigation to the Council of the Indies or the relevant audiences (or the Supreme Court of Madrid and in the nineteenth century, when there was the Council).
